SHEEPare not just cute ...

Eager to work our soils in harmony with the surrounding biodiversity, we continue to experiment with new methods. That is why it’s not unusual to spot sheep in our vineyards…

Every winter, from December to February, around 400 sheep move into our vines. The arrangement is simple: we provide a few parcels of land to Henry Harvey (their shepherd), who takes care of fencing them in.

Once settled in their new home, our woolly friends enjoy food and shelter, with hectares of tall grass at their disposal!

And for us winemakers, that means 400 natural and ecological lawnmowers!

A win-win collaboration!

By grazing on grass and adding organic matter, these sheep are precious allies. They play a key role in enriching and cleaning our soils, while preventing compaction. It’s another step toward zero herbicides, and above all, a wonderful collaboration to help reduce our carbon footprint!

After spending the winter months in our parcels between Cadillac, Haux, and Ladaux, our dear sheep head off in March — just before the buds appear!

And if you happen to pass by, we’re sure they’ll be happy to strike a pose for a photo 😉
